Telma Frictionless Brakes
Telma is the world leader in the design, development, manufacture and sales of electromagnetic retarders. The Telma headquarters is located at Telma SA in Sait-Ouen L’Aumone near Paris.
These systems are widely used on heavy trucks, transit buses, shuttle buses, motor-coaches, fire trucks and other vehicles. The electro magnetic retarder was first developed and marketed as a frictionless brake system in 1936. Since that time it has grown to be a fixture on many vehicles and is widely used on fire and refuse vehicles. The unit has proven to extend brake life on many refuse applications as much as ten times their normal replacement cycle. Because of the lower maintenance requirements and the added safety, many large fleets have made Telma a standard feature on their vehicles.
